Pick Your Own

Fresh produce grown for sale in a grocery store is bred for toughness in order to survive mechanical harvesting and shipping. Produce is usually picked unripe and often subjected to gases (ethylene) to change the colour to make the fruit appear ripe. Taste is way down the list!

Picking your own fruit and veges invariably lowers food costs, is healthier than processed, frozen or store-bought 'fresh', and it tastes like real food. The environment benefits too. Buying locally-grown food means less fossil fuel is burning when transporting produce from afar.

So have some fun. Rethink food. Support your local food economy.
